What residential security is
Residential security teams for homes, estates and venues
Residential security means skilled operatives on your premises, during the day and overnight, keeping the property and the people in it safe. Our Residential Security Teams (RSTs) protect private homes, country estates, clubs, venues and business premises, whether you need cover straight away for a short stay or a long-term arrangement.
Every deployment is bespoke. We match operatives to your household and the way you live: the look you want, and the type of person you want looking after your home.
Our operations management team are former specialist police officers.
What a residential security team does
A residential security team puts residential security operatives (RSOs) on site, during the day, overnight or around the clock, so the property stays safe and the household carries on as normal.
The risks we protect against range from theft, burglary and intruders to poaching on rural estates, and the particular risks that come with a high profile.
Day to day, your team provides
- A constant physical presence, day and overnight
- Access control: who comes in, and why
- Surveillance and monitoring in real time
- Risk assessment of the property and its routines
- A plan built around your layout and the way you live
Estate security and country houses
Large country estates, expansive venues and high-value properties need more than a presence at the front door. We can add specialist capability to a residential security team to watch over the grounds, day and night.
On larger estates we can also provide vehicles on a contract basis, and our drone operations carry their own insurance.
What we can add
- Thermal drones and thermal spotting equipment
- Infrared and night vision capability
- 4x4 and amphibious vehicles, on contract
- Drone operations covered by £5m drone liability
CCTV, alarms and live monitoring
People and technology work best together. Through our corporate relationships with CCTV and alarm installers we can put systems in place that are monitored remotely, alongside the team on site.
Not sure what you need? Our free security risk assessment at your property recommends the right mix of operatives, cameras, alarms and thermal capability, and nothing more.
Technology we can arrange
- IP cameras, installed for you
- CCTV and alarms, monitored remotely
- Turned round within 24 hours if something has happened at your home
- Your own in-house systems: we train our operatives to use them
- Our 24 hour operations line, whenever you need it

Client testimonials
In our clients' words
My business recently had a requirement for an on site security team to protect our building after a security breach. Brett and his team stepped in immediately, professionally and effectively advised and facilitated everything we needed even though it was on a weekend. I was hugely impressed, not only with the speed with which BPS were able to assist us but the absolute professionalism of Brett and all the members of his security team. I would not hesitate in recommending BPS and will absolutely use their services again.

Frequently asked questions
Questions about residential security
If there is anything we have not covered, or you would like to talk about any part of residential security, simply contact us.
Ask us a questionWhat is residential security?
Residential security means deploying experienced operatives to protect people, their private property and their interests from threats including theft, attack, trespass or anything that could put the safety or reputation of the residents at risk.
What does a residential security team (RST) do?
A residential security team is a group of residential security operatives (RSOs), sometimes called residential security officers, based at your property, during the day, overnight or both. They keep a constant presence, control who comes and goes, monitor the grounds and respond to anything out of the ordinary, so the household can carry on as normal.
Is residential security the same as estate security or overnight security?
Broadly, yes. Residential security, estate security, overnight security, venue security and high net worth security are different names for the same work: skilled operatives on your premises keeping the property and the people in it safe. At BPS it is one standard, whatever you call it.
How are BPS residential security staff trained and vetted?
Every team member goes through rigorous vetting and interview. Vetting is to BS7858 standard, plus more frequent DBS checks and social media reviews. Each operative works under a strict NDA. Many come from specialist police or military backgrounds. Alongside their security training, our staff are instructed in customer service, privacy and discretion, so they fit into your home life.
How much does residential security cost?
We do not publish prices, because every deployment is different. The cost is set by a threat, risk and harm assessment and a security assessment of the location or task, which decide how many operatives you need, the hours, how long for and any technology. We work within your budget, we are open about our staffing and pricing, and we will never recommend ten officers where two will do. A free security risk assessment at your property is the best place to start.
Can I hire a team for a short time, for example while I am away?
Yes. Sometimes it is a weekend while the family is away, or cover while a family is in the country: for example, a family who have rented a large manor house and want cover while they are here. We also provide long-term arrangements. Tell us the dates and we will match operatives to your household.
Can I get a Residential Security Team today?
Yes. We pride ourselves on how quickly we can protect a client: we have stood up an entire Residential Security Team, with IP cameras, within an hour for a business following an insider threat.
I already have CCTV and alarms. Do I still need a team?
Cameras and alarms record and warn; operatives on site can deter and respond in person. Many properties are best served by both. We can install IP cameras, arrange remotely monitored CCTV and alarms through the installers we work with, and have that turned round within 24 hours if something has happened at your home. If you already have systems in place, we can introduce our operatives to them and train them to use your in-house systems.
Do you offer a free security risk assessment?
Yes. We will visit your home or commercial property and carry out a security risk assessment free of charge, then recommend what you need: residential security operatives, CCTV and alarms, or thermal, infrared and night vision capability.
How do I choose a residential security company?
Look for a firm that is licensed and insured, and whose vetting is stringent, because these people will be in your home. Check its reputation and reviews, ask whether its operatives keep coming back to work for it, and ask for a site visit before you commit. We are happy to be measured on all of it.
How does residential security protect privacy while keeping you safe?
Privacy and discretion are the cornerstones of our approach. Our officers operate discreetly, so your day-to-day life is not disrupted, and any surveillance equipment is minimally intrusive and carefully positioned, only if you ask for it. Each plan is built around the household's lifestyle and preferences.
Do your officers wear uniform?
Whatever you prefer. Our operatives are chameleons: if you want them to look like security, they will, and if you would rather they wore chinos and a Barbour jacket, they can do that too.
Can you provide female officers?
Yes. We have a strong team of both male and female officers, so where there are cultural sensitivities we can deploy female officers.
Where do you provide residential security?
In every corner of the UK. There is no location in the UK or Europe we cannot cover with a residential security team. Our headquarters are in Maidstone, Kent.
Are your officers trained for emergencies?
Yes. All our operatives are medically trained as well as close protection trained, and many hold further qualifications such as behavioural detection and advanced driving. The standards do not change for residential work: our residential security operatives have the same training as our close protection deployments.
