Shingle, marsh and heath

A quiet coast and old wool towns

The Suffolk coast is a low, quiet stretch of shingle beaches, marshes, heathland and estuaries, and it holds several of the county's most expensive places to buy a home. Southwold and Walberswick face each other across the mouth of the River Blyth, Aldeburgh looks out over its long pebble beach, and Thorpeness is known for its Tudor-style holiday houses built in the early twentieth century. Upriver on the Deben, Woodbridge keeps its boating harbour and tide mill, while inland the old wool towns hold medieval timber-framed houses. Our Residential Security Teams provide trained, discreet operatives on site, day and overnight, wherever the home is in the county.

Some houses on this coast are lived in all year; others are holiday homes that stand closed for weeks at a time. Each calls for its own pattern of cover, and the plan is written around how the house is used.

Behind each Suffolk team sit our operations staff, people who learned their trade in specialist policing and who pick up the operations phone whatever the hour.

By the sea and inland

Beach houses and medieval timber frames

Houses facing the sea often stand in open settings, with marsh or heath behind them and few neighbours out of season. A regular, visible check on an empty house tells anyone passing that it is being looked after.

Inland, a medieval timber-framed house brings old doors, small windows and a fabric that should not be drilled lightly. Patrols and people come first there, with any equipment agreed with you before it is fitted.

Suffolk houses in our care

  • Thorpeness holiday houses shut between stays
  • Homes by the Deben at Woodbridge
  • Oak-framed medieval houses in the wool towns

Marsh, heath and estuary

Open ground on every side

Estuary and marsh can bring someone close to a garden without using a road. Our teams walk the whole holding, from the house to the sheds and the boundaries, so theft, burglary and trespass are discouraged, and poaching too on larger land.

When a family is widely known, keeping them out of view matters as much as the locks. Gate arrivals and deliveries are handled the way you choose, and the plan bends around your diary.

Extra help for coastal houses

  • Aerial thermal sweeps of reedbed and heath
  • Night patrols scanning the marsh with thermal handsets
  • Amphibious craft or four-by-fours, contracted per task
  • Alarm and camera feeds watched by a monitoring partner
  • Swift partner installs if anything happens

Low key by the coast

At home in a small town

In a small coastal town, an unfamiliar face is noticed quickly. Our operatives can dress as any visitor or resident would, or wear uniform when you want the protection to be seen.

Female operatives are on offer, and we match every person to the family and the rhythm of the household.

  • A holiday week or a whole winter

We cover a single summer week, the closed-up months or every day of the year, in daylight, after dark or both.

  • When the call is urgent

Ring after any incident and, before the call ends, you will know the cover we can offer.

  • A team that can grow

If the job gets bigger, extra operatives can be added within 24 hours, wherever in the country the home is.

  • Minded in your absence

With the owners gone, the Suffolk house keeps its people; for the trip itself, close protection is on offer too.

Before any proposal

First, we come to see the house

A security assessment of your Suffolk home costs you nothing. We look at the approaches from the beach, the river or the lane, at doors, windows and outbuildings, and at the times the house stands empty.

Our proposal then keeps the team as small as safety allows. You see the numbers and the charges set out before the first shift.

Proof points

Credentials of every Suffolk operative

  • SIA licence in every pocket

An in-date SIA licence is checked for every operative before their first Suffolk shift.

  • Deeper screening

We vet to BS7858, then add a social media review and DBS renewals that come round sooner.

  • Ready to give first aid

Treating an injury is part of every operative's skill set, sitting beside the protection work.

  • Insured, at ground level and above it

On the job, our people carry £10m public liability cover; whenever we put a drone up, a further £5m policy applies.

  • Leadership trained by the police

Every manager behind a Suffolk deployment comes out of specialist police units. Behavioural detection is something we have taught to several police forces, and our police contacts span the UK.

  • Associations

Suffolk families sometimes ask which professional bodies we belong to. The firm itself is a British Bodyguard Association corporate member and an Armed Forces Covenant signatory, while our directors, separately, are in the Security Institute, IPSA and BRITMA.

On the Suffolk coast

Seaside and wool-town owners ask

Ask us a question
  • Can you keep an eye on a holiday house when nobody is there?

Yes. Plenty of owners want cover between visits and again while the family is staying, and the arrangement can shift as summer turns to winter.

  • Do you work along the whole coast and inland too?

Yes. Teams go to Southwold, Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, to Woodbridge on the Deben and to the wool towns, with our operations team overseeing each one.

  • Our garden ends at the marsh. How can you see it in the dark?

Thermal cameras, carried by the team or flown on a drone, let operatives see across marsh, reed and heath after dark without lighting up the garden.

  • Can your people pass as ordinary visitors to Southwold?

Easily. Casual or country clothing replaces the uniform, and we pick operatives who will settle into a small seaside community.

  • How is a quote for a Suffolk house put together?

Two pieces of work come first: a judgement of threat, risk and harm, then a survey on site. Only then do we size the team, by the grounds, the buildings, the ways in and the hours to be filled.

  • Burglars got in while we were away: what happens now?

Our operations phone is answered around the clock, and short-notice cover can be organised from that first call. Our installation partners can then fit a monitored system of cameras and alarms by the following day.
