Limestone country

Honey stone and open wold

The Cotswolds is the largest National Landscape in the country: rolling hills rising to a dramatic western escarpment, villages built from Jurassic limestone in warm honeyed tones, and thousands of kilometres of dry stone walls. Its best known addresses include Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, Tetbury and the Slaughters, where listed manor houses, period town houses and stone cottages sit alongside farms and private country estates. Our Residential Security Teams provide trained, discreet operatives on site, day and overnight, so that a family home or a weekend house is looked after with the same quiet care whether the owners are in residence or away.

The area reaches across several counties, and many of its finest houses are listed. A manor may bring a walled garden, a coach house, farm buildings and acres of grazing behind its walls, so the plan has to reach well past the front door.

Each Cotswold deployment is planned and overseen by our operations team in Maidstone, former specialist police officers who answer the operations line through the night as well as the day.

Old stone houses

Listed manors and weekend homes

Plenty of Cotswold houses stand empty for part of the week. A house that is quiet from Monday to Friday gains a great deal from a regular presence, and its owners can arrive for the weekend knowing it has been looked after.

Listed buildings bring their own considerations. Changes to the fabric may need consent, so we lean on people and patrols first and talk through any equipment carefully before it is fitted.

Cotswold property types

  • Listed manors behind high walls
  • Period houses facing the market square
  • Weekend cottages
  • Working farms and private estates

Open wold

Protecting the wider holding

With dry stone walls in place of fences and long views across open country, a rural Cotswold property can be approached from many directions. Patrols cover house, barns and pasture alike, making theft, break-ins, trespass and poaching far harder.

Owners who are well known can count on particular care for their privacy. We decide with you how the gate, the drive and visitors are handled, and fit the plan to the rhythm of the household.

Available in the Cotswolds

  • Thermal aerial checks over pasture and copse
  • Thermal scanning on foot after dusk
  • Vehicles for mud or water, sourced on contract
  • Remote eyes on your alarm and CCTV
  • Kit fitted by partners the next day

In the village

Quiet, capable people

In a Cotswold village, people notice strangers. Our operatives can wear country clothes and keep a low profile, or appear in uniform when a visible presence is what you want.

Where a female officer is the better fit, we can provide one, and each operative is selected to sit easily with the way your family lives.

  • Weekdays, weekends, all year

Cover by day, by night or both, for one weekend or as a standing arrangement.

  • Quick to mobilise

For urgent requests a team can often be dispatched inside sixty minutes, and advance notice always helps.

  • Bigger when it matters

More people can be brought in within a day, to any part of the country.

  • In residence or away

With the family gone, the house keeps its cover; should you want protection on the journey, ask for one of our close protection officers.

Ahead of any quote

We visit before we quote

We visit your Cotswold property and carry out a security assessment without charge, looking at the house, the outbuildings and the boundaries, and at how the home is used during the week and at weekends.

Our recommendation is proportionate. We will not propose more operatives than the house needs, and you see the staffing and the fees before you commit to anything.

Checks and balances

Credentials for Cotswold clients

  • On the SIA register

Each operative we send to a Cotswold home holds a licence from the Security Industry Authority.

  • Background checked

BS7858 is our baseline. Social media reviews and more regular DBS renewals sit on top of it.

  • Care in an emergency

Every one can give medical aid, not just protection.

  • Insured to £10m

BPS is insured for £10m public liability, and a further £5m policy covers our thermal drone flying.

  • Run by ex-police specialists

Specialist police careers came first for the people who now run our operations. We keep close relationships with police forces nationally, and several have sent officers on our behavioural detection courses.

  • Bodies and pledges

Individually, the Security Institute, BRITMA and IPSA all have our directors as members. As a business, BPS has pledged support to the Armed Forces Covenant and holds a corporate place in the British Bodyguard Association.

From owners on the wolds

Answers before you call

Ask us a question
  • Who watches the house Monday to Friday?

That can be us. Many Cotswold owners want the house covered while they are elsewhere, then again while they are in residence. We agree the pattern with you, and it can change through the year.

  • Is the whole of the Cotswolds covered?

Yes. We deploy teams throughout the area, from Chipping Campden and Broadway in the north to Tetbury in the south.

  • Will security equipment affect a listed building?

We start with people rather than hardware. Where cameras or alarms would help, we discuss placement with you first, so you can check what consents the building may need.

  • Can operatives keep a low profile in the village?

Yes. They can dress as anyone else would in the country, and we choose people who will sit comfortably in a small community.

  • Why do quotes vary between properties?

Because no two holdings are alike. Land, barns, gateways and the hours of cover each push the numbers up or down. Underneath every figure we give sits a formal look at threat, risk and harm, plus our own survey on site.

  • After a break-in, what is the first step?

Call us on the 24 hour operations phone without delay. Cover can be arranged quickly, and monitored equipment fitted within a day.
