About the course
Convoy, Evasive and Defensive Driving (London Essentials)
An affordable, intensive way for CPOs to build a strong foundation in protection driving. The driving team comes from specialist operational police and military backgrounds, including armed response, surveillance and the RMP Close Protection Unit.
Theory is delivered in a training facility at Canary Wharf; the practical session takes place on central London's busiest streets, travelling in both the principal and back-up vehicles.
The 12 hour programme gives you the knowledge, skills and strategies to operate effectively in real-world, high-stakes environments. Our drivers are advanced drivers with operational experience first and foremost: practitioners, not just instructors, focused on real-life skills and experience you can deploy immediately.
Throughout the course, continuous character and stress assessments make sure you are ready to think through these techniques under realistic pressure. Whether you are managing a convoy or responding to a threat, you leave with the tools to protect your principal, not just follow a manual.

The practical, in central London
You run drills as a passenger and observer around well-known close protection locations such as Harrods, Selfridges, high-end hotels and exclusive event spaces, travelling in both the principal and back-up vehicles.
- Convoy runs: accurate, real-time commentary to the chase vehicle to keep the convoy together, map reading, using different satnav systems, and suggesting new or alternative routes to the advanced drivers
- Anti-surveillance manoeuvres: detecting threats and suggesting evasive techniques as the instructors drive tactically in busy urban streets
- Defensive positioning: how vehicle positioning safeguards your principal during an ambush or attack, in realistic scenarios in high-profile locations
