Home ground for our teams

Kent is home ground for us. Our headquarters are in Maidstone, and some of the county's most sought-after addresses are close by: Sevenoaks, with some of the highest house prices in the county, the villages of Penshurst, Plaxtol and Ightham, and Langton Green on the edge of Tunbridge Wells. Between the chalk ridge of the Kent Downs and the wooded hills of the High Weald sit historic parkland estates, country houses, converted oasts and large family homes in their own grounds. Our Residential Security Teams provide trained, discreet operatives on site, day and overnight, so a household can carry on as normal while the property is properly looked after.

Many Kent properties are more than a single building. A Weald farmstead can take in the main house, an oast, barns and a strip of woodland; a Downs estate can stretch across parkland, cottages and several entrances. We plan cover for the whole holding, from the drive to the furthest outbuilding.

Behind your team sits our operations staff in Maidstone, all of them from specialist police backgrounds, on a phone line that is answered day and night.

Kent homes

From parkland to farmstead

Between Kent's two National Landscapes, the pattern of property changes from parish to parish. On the chalk you find historic parkland estates reached by long drives; in the Weald, clay tiled farmhouses sit beside converted oasts and barns, often with woodland around them.

Each layout calls for its own plan: a drive out of sight of the house, outbuildings that stand empty overnight, a boundary that meets open woodland. A team on site keeps an eye on all of it in person, day and night.

Grounds and land

Looking after the whole estate

Country homes ask more of a security team than a town house does. With neighbours further apart and more ground to cover, our operatives look after the outbuildings, the boundaries and the land as well as the house, guarding against theft, burglary and intruders, and against poaching on rural estates.

A well-known household has its own considerations too, from privacy to who arrives at the gate. The plan we write for you is shaped around those and around the way your family uses the property.

On a Kent deployment we can add

  • Thermal drone overwatch of parkland and woodland
  • Thermal spotting kit for the team on foot
  • Four-wheel drive and amphibious transport, contracted in
  • Camera and alarm systems watched from off site, IP cameras included
  • Systems put in within 24 hours after an incident

On the ground

A team that fits the setting

A residential team in a Kent village should look as though it belongs there. How our operatives dress is your choice, from uniform when you want security to be seen to the clothes anyone might wear on a country estate when you would rather it was not.

We can deploy female officers where a household prefers it, and we choose each operative with your family's routine in mind.

  • Day and overnight cover

Operatives on site through the day, through the night or both, for a weekend or for as long as you need them.

  • Short notice

When something has just happened, we can often have operatives with you inside an hour. A little warning always helps.

  • Scaling up

Where a property needs more people, a bigger team can be on the ground within 24 hours, anywhere in the UK.

  • Away from home

The house can be covered while it stands empty, and our close protection officers can go with you when you leave it.

First, a visit

Start with a visit to the property

Before anyone is deployed, we can visit your home or estate in Kent and assess its security, at no cost to you. The assessment looks at the layout, the routines of the household and the risks that come with your profile.

You then get an honest recommendation. If two operatives can cover the property safely, we will not propose more, and the staffing and the cost are set out plainly before anything begins.

Behind the team

Who stands behind your Kent team

  • Licensed by the SIA

Every operative we place on a Kent property holds an SIA licence.

  • BS7858 and beyond

Background checks meet BS7858, and we add social media screening and DBS checks repeated at shorter intervals.

  • First aid ready

On top of their close protection skills, each operative carries medical training.

  • Cover in place

We carry £10m of public liability insurance, and our thermal drone flights have their own £5m liability policy.

  • Led by former police

Every manager in our operations team has a specialist police background, and BPS has close working ties with constabularies nationwide. A number of those forces have also put their officers through our behavioural detection training.

  • Professional bodies

Two affiliations belong to the company itself: the Armed Forces Covenant, which BPS has signed, and the British Bodyguard Association, where it holds corporate membership. Among our directors' memberships: the Security Institute, IPSA and BRITMA.

Questions from Kent clients

Ask us a question
  • Do you cover the whole of Kent?

Yes. Our headquarters are in Maidstone, the county town, and we deploy residential teams throughout Kent, from the Sevenoaks villages to the High Weald and beyond.

  • Can you look after a country house while we are away?

Yes. Many households want cover for a weekend, a holiday or a longer stay abroad. Operatives can be on site day and overnight while the house is empty, and we agree the dates with you beforehand.

  • Can your team watch the grounds as well as the house?

Yes. On larger plots we can add thermal drone overwatch and thermal spotting equipment, so open parkland, woodland edges and outbuildings are watched after dark as well as the house itself.

  • Will a security team stand out in a Kent village?

Only if you want it to. Operatives can wear uniform, or dress as anyone else would on a country property, and they are chosen to fit in with your household.

  • Why can an estate and a town house be priced so differently?

Because the property sets the price. Acreage, the number of outbuildings, how many ways in there are and whether you want people overnight or only in daylight all change how many operatives a task needs. Every quote is built on an assessment of threat, risk and harm, together with a survey of the property's security, so a compact village house and a parkland estate with several gates rarely come out the same.

  • We have just had a break-in. How soon can you help?

Ring our operations number, which is staffed around the clock. Short-notice cover can often start inside an hour, and cameras with monitored alarms can be fitted within a day of an incident.
