This 12-hour programme provides a comprehensive look into the role of protective driving, equipping you with essential knowledge, skills and strategies to operate effectively in real-world, high-stakes environments. Delivered by advanced drivers with operational experience first and foremost, our training & driving team comes from specialist operational police and military backgrounds, including Armed Response, Surveillance, and the RMP Close Protection Unit. They are practitioners, not just instructors, and they focus on providing delegates with real-life skills & experiences that they can deploy immediately—not just training by the handbook.
The theory session of the course is delivered in a state-of-the-art training facility in the clouds at Canary Wharf, London, offering the perfect environment to explore:
•The Role of a Protection Driver: Understanding responsibilities and integrating effectively within a security team.
•Route Planning and Risk Assessments: Practical strategies to identify risks and plan secure routes.
•Convoy Tactics: Roles of lead, support, and backup vehicles, and maintaining convoy continuity in urban challenges.
•Communication and Coordination: Effective use of radios, hand signals, and integration of chase vehicles or outriders.
•Embus and Debus Procedures: Real-world principles for safely embarking and disembarking principals.
•Anti/Counter-Surveillance Principles: How to identify, disrupt, and respond to surveillance.
•Defensive Driving Strategies: Techniques for vehicle positioning, contingency planning, and handling emergencies.
The practical session takes place in Central London, immersing you in the dynamic and challenging environment of the city’s busiest streets. You’ll conduct drills as an passenger/observer around well-known CP haunts such as Harrods, Selfridges, high-end hotels, and exclusive event spaces. You’ll travel in both the Principal & Back-up vehicles to get an in-depth understanding of the roles of both. Key elements of the afternoon include:
•Convoy Runs: Navigate Central London as part of a convoy, focusing on maintaining accurate, real-time commentary to the chase vehicle to ensure convoy cohesion. Map reading, proficient use of various SatNav systems and suggesting new or alternative routes to the advanced drivers.
•Anti-Surveillance Manoeuvres: Practice detecting and suggesting evasive techniques to avoid potential threats through the instructors tactical driving in busy urban environments.
•Defensive Positioning: Learn how to safeguard your principal by vehicle positioning during ambushes or attacks, using realistic scenarios in high-profile locations.
•Embus and Debus Drills: Practice safe embarking and disembarking in dynamic, high-pressure situations at iconic London landmarks.
Throughout the course, continuous character and stress assessments are conducted to ensure you are fully prepared to think of these techniques under realistic pressures.
This course goes beyond theory to deliver practical inputs and operational skills by observing real time advance drivers that prepare you to act confidently and effectively as a protection driver. Whether you’re managing a convoy or responding to a threat, this training equips you with the tools to protect your principal—not just follow a manual.
